YouTube Music – How to Access and Use Equalizer?

YouTube Music (YT Music) can offer you the hottest and latest songs right on your smartphone. With a subscription, you get all the goodies like playing music while keeping the screen locked. But it works quite well without an active paid subscription as well. After all, the content is pulled from YouTube and the selection there is quite huge. The music app also has some features which allow you to choose stream quality and save your mobile data. Additionally, there’s an equalizer feature that can be used to perfect the audio output. Using the equalizer, we can make the music sound just right with the help of the sliders, presets and bass and surround sound boost.

To access and use the Equalizer feature in YT Music (YouTube Music) app:

  1. On the app, click on user-icon on the top-right
  2. Tap on Settings
  3. Tap on Equalizer (Adjust audio settings)

The equalizer interface will open within the application. To use it, it must be turned on at first. The slider on the top right should be moved towards the right. When it is on, the equalizers sliders can be moved and the presets are selectable.

The available presents are normal, classical, dance, flat, folk, heavy metal, hip hop, jazz, pop, rock, fx booster, and user. One should choose one of these depending on the music that they are listening to. All of these presets will have the sliders positioned differently. So, it will impact the sound quality in your mobile device.

Additionally, you can use the user settings to have a customized equalizer preset. That means, we can manually drag the sliders over the 60hz, 230hz, 910hz, 4kHz, and 14kHz pointers. Drag them if you know what you are doing. Also, use the bass boost and the surround sound sliders. Drag them to increase the bass and also to make it sound like the sound is coming in from all directions. The settings will also impact an external Bluetooth speaker.

  • Anyone looking for updated info (21/11/2022) - The 'Equalizer', has moved now into 'Playback'. On homepage (startup on 'YouTube Music' (app), select Profile Picture > 'Settings' > 'Playback' > 'Equaliser' > then adjust, or select from drop down menu (downwards arrow) presets. Hope this helps. Had to search for it. Take care all.
