How to Access and Use the Equalizer in Google Play Music

Google Play Music app has an inbuilt sound Equalizer that you can use to make the music playing, sound much better. You can use it to increase your bass, treble or decrease bass, treble etc. Google Play music features a graphic equalizer that allows us to control five frequencies—60 Hz, 230 Hz, 910 Hz, 4kHz and 14kHz. You can freely drag the sliders to configure it to your taste. The equalizer is accessible from the menu.

Here are the detailed steps to access the equalizer in the Google Play Music app:

  1. Go to Menu
  2. Tap on Settings
  3. Tap on Equalizer under Playback
Note: You will have to drag the slider on the top right towards the right to activate the equalizer.

Once active, you can slide the individual frequencies up or down if you know what you are doing. Usually, the lower frequencies 60 Hz, 230 Hz is the bass of the audio. The higher frequencies 4kHz and 14kHz change the treble of the music. Push those sliders towards the top to increase bass or treble and pull them down to decrease bass or treble.

There are also pre-set configurations that you can use on the equalizer. The presets will automatically set those sliders on the frequencies. They are chosen from a drop-down on the top-left. By default, if you have never used it or turned in on, it says Normal. Tap on it and you can choose between Classical, Dance, Flat, Folk, Heavy Metal, Hip Hop, Jazz, Pop, Rock, FX booster, and User. All these presets will add the effects to your audio. Enjoy and refine your playback with the equalizer.
